A murmuration

The correct collective noun for starlings is apparently "a murmuration", but they don't murmur in my opinion. They shriek and chatter and generally make a clamour.

They also make nests under our bedroom eaves, and we can hear them pattering around early in the morning. They do NOT have quiet footsteps!

However, the patterns they make when a huge murmuration is flying in formation at dusk is truly one of the wonders of the natural world.
