The Eye Of the Sea

To be honest, I had no plans to participate in today’s Mono Monday Challenge; it seemed too far beyond today’s experiences for me to find an appropriate subject.

After all, we spend the day walking north along a section of the coastal path, with rugged cliffs and rock structures far from smooth, and sea whipped up by fierce winds that have us leaning into them to keep upright. Neither land nor sea offer up ‘smoothness’, though in terms of raw natural beauty they offer gifts beyond measure.

But suddenly, we come across two rounded smoothed-out rocks,  placed one on top of the other, the uppermost carved out to form a viewing hole. This is, we find out later, The Eye of the Sea, a sculpture by Alain Ayres. I love these random finds; a piece of art placed anonymously in a wild place above the sea, accessible only on foot. Nature’s gallery, already full of beauty, graced by a work of man.
