Fallow deer in Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park is famous for its large herd of fallow deer. Fallow deer are not native to Ireland (unlike the Irish Elk, which was not an elk and is now extinct). The herd in Phoenix Park was brought over from England in 1662. The herd was culled in 1942, when1200 animals were reduced to a mere 38. I believe the herd currently consists of 600 deer.
