Green Dragon Bridge Cambridge
Although I have never rowed, it was good to see plenty of rowers on the Cam this morning as we ease out of 'lockdown'. The Green Dragon Bridge replaced a ferry crossing over the Cam in the 1920s. The mooring for the ferry was just to the right of the red and green boathouse. This foot and cycle bridge connects Chesterton to Stourbridge Common and central Cambridge. The Common had been the site of Europe's biggest medieval fair. It began in 1211 and was held annually until 1933 although it was probably at its busiest between the 1500-1700s.
