Caravanserai
I 'Blipped' this very same door on the 13th January 2012 of Caravanserai in Medinet Habu.
One year on and composing an image, from a slightly different angle, tells a very different story.
Before, the image portrayed a sense of magic and wonderment. Now, it simply shows the reality, of an industry that has and continues, to crumble, day by day in Luxor.
A short while ago, Rawia would have opened the door to the family shop and made a living from the tourists that cycled or walked by. Independent travelers would have made a conscious effort, to visit Caravanserai, as it was a reputable attraction to visit, according to the Lonely Planet Guidebook.
Today, the scene is very different.
Rawia sits alone in the cool shade of the colourful mud brick building, the treasures inside gather dust, the only people to visit, are the neighbours from the village. She waits and watches the street for potential customers.
The BBC did a wonderful piece on Luxor today.
After 2 years of being associated with the troubles of lower Egypt (Cairo) Luxor was given 2.20 minutes of World coverage, succinctly summarising, the connection(Lifeline) between tourism, people and animals. Yes, they ALL need each other to survive and earn a living.
