Meander
It’s another wonderful day exploring more of Pembrokeshire’s beauty. A circular walk along the coast, taking in Non’s Well and Chapel, reputedly where Non gave birth to Saint David in the 6th century, before arriving in St David’s itself. This is a place heavy with religious significance.
It’s my first time of visiting. On the one hand, it’s very familiar - the familiarity that comes with cultural or religious icons, but I’m not expecting the vastness of the Bishop’s Palace ruins stretching out alongside the cathedral. Of course, everything is closed, but bizarrely we do come across Michael Ball waiting for a gap in the trickle of visitors so he can be filmed walking down to the cathedral. I resist requesting selfies or autographs, though we do stop to chat.
It’s then on to the pretty town of Solva, located on a narrow inlet. Quiet now, in high season it must be heaving. We climb steeply out of the town to overlook the sea, where the next inlet ends in a gravel beach lapped by the clearest of water. A small stream flows into the sea here, carving perfect meanders into the rich green valley floor. We return along paths through golden-blossomed gorse, it’s heady fragrance singing of spring despite the cold.
