Tea break?
We got home today, after a lovely three days away in the city.
The Union Bank Inn hotel in downtown Edmonton was beautiful and elegant. Not one of the big names, but locally owned, which we don’t mind supporting. The attached 4 star restaurant was a pleasure and the server there watched for us each morning. We were the only repeat customers along with one or two others each morning. We felt badly for him as the pandemic has made trade next to nothing, so we tipped extra. Last night the government announced that due to an increase in pandemic cases, there would be a closing of all restaurants starting this Friday. Our poor server was quite discouraged.
That did seem to be the tone of the city. Discouragement. We were in a small coffee shop Monday morning, the only ones in there I should add. When a young fellow came in to inquire about any job openings only to be told there is nothing available.
These are sad days not only for those who have suffered ill health but for those losing jobs as well.
Anyway, the downtown was quieter than usual and I still became quickly tired of the traffic and noise. It was lovely to be gone and good to be home in the quiet again.
Many used books were purchased. Along with some treats. Two new Pilot fountain pens, three classic music CDs, and a partridge in a pear tree. So we did well.
It was good to be gone and now home again. Tomorrow zoom meetings start again and hopefully the Sunday service plans can be completed. Maybe I’ll even start to reply to emails I’ve too long set aside.
Tonight though, some tea and a start on the book pile we each purchased.
