The Sphinx Benches

Normally at this time of year there are hundreds of tourists about and it is difficult to really appreciate these wonderful benches. They were created for the Embankment in London by George Vulliamy to give the newly created embankment a sense of prestige and style and complement the arrival of Cleopatra’s Needle in 1878. They were made by Z.D. Berry and Son of Regent Street and were installed in 1877
