Prince Philip died this morning.

" It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip. Duke of Edinburgh.

His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

This was the message from the palace this morning.

Above are stamps commemorating a very happy time for the Royal Couple.  Their wedding in 1947 and their Golden Wedding Anniversary in  1997.  Although even then Sadness came in the shape of Princess Diana's death.

"This set was originally due to be issued on Tuesday 7 October but was delayed until Thursday 13 November due to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales."  She died 31.08.1997.

RIP Prince Philip.
