I then watched her take it up to last year's woodpecker hole (minus the chunky fungus which fell off shortly after they fledged (extra)).  I can't imagine it's a nest she'll actually use given the size of the hole! 

Speaking of which, I have a hole, not quite so large, in my arm after this morning's jab - fantastic system of professionals on the front line and volunteers welcoming.  Hoping to feel good enough for the chocolate bar I have planned for this evening's 'get over it soon' treat.
