Treasure

Until today I never knew what this small piece of brass was, only that it had been kept safely among other family heirlooms. I’ve now discovered it was my great-uncle Wilfred’s matchbox cover from WW1. In his service record is a list of his personal effects that were returned to the family but this seems to be all that survives.
It may not look much but to me it’s priceless.

The flag is from the same era and was very probably waved by my grandma to celebrate the Armistice, four days before they received the telegram telling them that Wilfred had died.
