Lovely walk around Scar House Reservoir. The weather was great & the views spectacular.

Scar House Reservoir, built to supply 21 million gallons of water, per day, to Bradford.  Construction started in 1921 and took about 15 years to complete. Workmen began work at 7.30am, finishing at dusk, and were paid 5p per hour in today’s money. A new village was built for the workforce and included;

Grocer, butcher, draper, newsagent & fishmonger
600-seat cinema
Canteen (sold off and relocated, now Darley’s Memorial Hall)
Reading and recreation room
Concert hall
Hairdresser
Library
Mission hall for Sunday services
Post office
Bank
Tennis courts, golf course and football club
School with 3 teachers and up to 90 pupils
Fire brigade with 18 firemen and a police constable
And .....
A chip shop
