80kg of Australian burl
Our trip to Canberra (now ended) met a number of needs. One of them was for our son to purchase more burl from his supplier in the ACT. He gets pretty anxious spending his hard earned cash in such a large wad but loves working with it and, obviously, he cannot make and sell his wares without buying it. This was his third bulk purchase so far, this one more focussed than the first two: he bought mostly large pieces that are either as a large as his lathe can handle of can be cut in half without comprising the end result (reverse turned bowls and platters).
It's actually less than 80kg, that's the wet weight after the bark's been removed but before it's spent a couple of months drying further.
