Worst fears
We had only just moved into our new house a few months earlier and always had some concern about the road directly outside our property. It lies on a bend in two longish straights where some people use it as a bit of racing track. Just outside our gates there is a memorial on the side of the road to a young man who died in an accident on the bend a few years ago.
And so it was heart-wrenching to hear the sounds of an accident while I was in the garden. Rushed out to find the scene top right, about 100 metres from our entrance. Two cars had collided, one lying half on its side down an embankment with the driver trapped.
It wasn't long before the village fire engine turned up. I don't remember how it came about but I was asked to get my tractor to the scene in case they needed it to lift/pull anything. Hence the tractor in the other photos. The larger Ottobeuren fire engine then also appeared along with ambulances and emergency doctor.
The driver of the smaller red car in the ditch had to be cut free, the entire rood & boot being cut off. I don't know what the final outcome was as I withdrew when things were clearly under control.
In the meantime the road has been completely redone and the embankments somewhat reduced, but the hazard is still there as is the danger. We often have people overtake us on the blind corner when we indicate we are turning into our drive.
