I got 12 hours notice, during 10 of which the shops would be shut, of the need to dress up for World Book Day. Fortunately a braid, a bow and a bird pin turned Grace into a respectable Katniss Everdeen.

True to form, she didn't win the contest: a kid dressed as Barack Obama won. Who isn't a fictional character, as far as I know. So the lesson was ( once again): ' No, Grace, it isn't fair. But then neither is life, so you might as well get used to it.'
