A Harrowing Experience

C & I walked with Fletcher and Maica this morning in a small public park that was once part of a large farm. Spotted this old farm equipment partially hidden in the undergrowth. The main photo is of a 'Notched Harrow'.
On our drive to the park, Fletcher and Maica had some type of altercation in the back seat. The next thing I knew, our Big White Dog was gone from the car! We think that Maica probably went after him while he was hanging his head out of the window, startling him and he fell out of the car. Since there was some roadwork, traffic was just creeping along. I looked in my sideview mirror and saw him by the side of the road maybe 50 yards back. I pulled to the side of the road, got out and started calling him. Since we live in a very dog-friendly community, all traffic halted! When he realized where I was he ran as fast as he could right back to me. I waved to everyone to show my heartfelt thanks and put him back in the car. We pulled over into a gas station parking lot and I checked him over and tried to calm myself down. Thankfully his only injury appears to be a small abrasion on his lower jaw and some road grease/oil marks on his back. We then continued on to our walk.
If you haven't trained your dog in 'Recall', coming back to you when you call them, this is a really good example of why it's a real good idea to do so. I work with Fletcher's recall everyday and will continue to do so.
Be Safe and Stay Well. :)
