Irish bush
Another day out - this time to the woods in Glengarriff and a meet up with our pals Robert and Finola. Bantry House is only open at the weekends so Robert brought scones and jam and butter and we had a picnic al fresco. The weather was stunning and several other people had the same idea - blankets, dogs, sandwiches all on display. This is a beautiful area and once fuelled we did the Big Meadow Walk admiring the many wildflowers - primroses, bluebells, wood anemones, spurge, violets - and the grandeur of the huge mossy trees. The waterfall , usually so gushing, was just a trickle but another very enjoyable walk. Himself and I continued and did the Esknamucky walk - a stiff climb upwards but with some huge views out across the glen. As you come down you join the river walk so a variety of landscapes, in parts very reminiscent of New Zealand but with different bush specimens. Himself felt the urge to remove sock and boots and dip his toes in the river - sparkling but very cold! The sun is still shining (7.15pm) but the temperature is dropping.
