Cold Beer Here For A 60's Icon
It was the last of my brother's three days off work so we decided to head back to the coast again (the second time in three days) - this time to Margate (it was supposed to Whitstable but I forgot the way!)
It was another glorious Spring morning and we set off early assuming there would be traffic heading that way as it is still the Easter holidays. We decided to take a more scenic route - past Harrietsham, Chilham and through Canterbury but encountered very light traffic apart from the occasional set of road works and some town centre queues.
As we drove into Margate we were surprised to see only a scattering of people on the beach and the roads were almost completely clear. The bay at Margate Sands looked spotless with the sea shimmering and the little harbour near the breakwater lined with small boats.
We parked the car near the old disused Lido and walked back into town and then out along the breakwater to a micro pub called The Harbour Arms where we had a beer just as it opened, looking back across the bay towards the town. It was bloody cold but the sun was out and the view was spectacular.
Having said all this my main image today was taken down a tiny side street next to a closed pub. This hoarding was in front of a building site opposite the pub. I loved the 60's imagery of Twiggy and then noticed the little bucket in the corner with Cold Beer Here painted on it - hence the title!
My first extra is called "Dance Dream" and is a different perspective of the Dreamland Theme Park with a 58 metre high, eighteen storey brutalist 60's tower block called Arlington House in the background.
My second extra is called "Hot and Cold Beach Goods" and is an image of a very colourful retail outlet (or a large shed selling stuff!) on the beach sands.
The last extra was the view across the bay from The Harbour Arms where we had our outdoor beers.
