Butterflies
The day's warm sunshine brought this pair of early butterflies into my garden on what I thought was a potential mating ritual. But maybe one of them is just a bit confused! The top butterfly is a small tortoiseshell and the one below is a peacock butterfly. Initially, I spotted them from the window and thought they'd be gone by the time I nipped out with my 300mm lens. They had gone, but returned after a few flypasts when they settled briefly on the purple denticulata and I was able to take some shots. Peacock butterflies have a black underside and this is the only sharp shot with both butterflies displaying their glorious colours.
Extra: The dark side of peacock butterflies.
