The Black Swan

On my travails down Leith I came across the frontage of this building which intrigued me with the two carved blocks on the front, the one on the right is the Leith coat of arms but the swan on the left was a puzzle.
Turns out that it marks the former name of the pub The Black Swan. A pub is indicated on the Ordnance Survey maps since 1875 and there is a photograph in the archives from 1892 of the pub as The Black Swan. The pub, given its location in deepest Leith, has had a colourful past but with the local area becoming more gentrified (expensive) those days are unlikely to come back. I must give it a bash when circumstances allow.
