Garden drinks party

When it was announced on Wednesday that up to six adults from six households would be permitted to meet outside as of today, Melissa suggested to our book group pals that we organise a wee get-together for Friday. The obvious venue was our (almost made-over) back garden.

Six of us from four households gathered this evening from 17:30 onwards for a wonderful couple of hours of face-to-face, in real life, fizz-fuelled chat and laughter. It was so much fun. Mr hazelh made the best joke of the evening with a very witty reply when asked how our Lewis chessmen king and queen made it to our garden. Can you guess his reply? For a couple of other shots from our get-together, please see today's posts from Ridgeback13 and ArcLight.

The other excitement of the day was a trip to the garden centre, armed with a long shopping list. Our main purchases were two sets of plants: (1) to create a rockery under the tree hydrangea; and (2) to fill the voids in the breeze block wall. Also in our trolley were pond plants, a wisteria, Virginia creeper, dahlia bulbs, compost, wildflower seeds, mealworm, and wood preserver.

With Mr hazelh's help, I managed to plant up the block garden just before the arrival of our guests. It looks great. I only hope that the magpies don't take a fancy to it.

Paddy and Caitlin are coming on Sunday with the goal of creating the rockery, making the compost box, attaching the gutter to the shed and the water butt, and sowing the lawn. If we manage to get this all done on the day, our garden makeover will have taken exactly one year to complete.

In other news, Mr hazelh went to the barber this morning and now has a more aerodynamic hairstyle than of late.

Exercise today: walking (to Porty - 15,390 steps); a little gardening.
