Quod oculus meus videt

The Next Phase

We had a cracking day, heading out to Swadlincote to pick up a chair we had ordered before stopping a couple of times at a forest centre and marina before getting home late afternoon.

In the evening I headed over to my offices to meet up with the police to carry out evening visits to pubs in the District.  I was a few minutes early so, with the major expansion work taking place at the offices, I put the drone up to capture some aerial shots in the evening sun.  South Staffordshire Council was formed in 1974 as part of the local government reorganisation.  It amalgamated two rural district councils and decided to create its new headquarters in Codsall.  The original building is the L shape to the left of the shot; the wing to the right was added on in the 1990s when poll tax was introduced.  The latest editions and refurbishment of all of the offices will turn it into a community hub.

The visits were in the main uneventful.  It was explained that problems had started last night when one of my colleagues was with the team, rival groups  with too much alcohol inside them had squared up in one of the villages.  It was good to see people out enjoying themselves, though by the end of the evening the temperature had dropped considerably and the offer of rugs by one establishment was being taken up by even the hardiest of souls.  It reminded me of our trip to South Africa and sundowners on the reserve.
