Stiperstones from the Mynd

Another cold and frosty start and so I donned about twenty layers and set off to visit mum and dad at their caravan near Churchstoke / Bishop’s Castle. I never drive through the Hope Valley without marvelling at how wonderful it is.

We set off to scope out pubs that may be open later (Shropshire readers: The Bridges is not opening to the public yet, alas) and then headed over the Burway for a walk on the Mynd. I’m always surprised at how vast the Long Mynd is and just how many different paths there are. I think you could a different walk everyday up there for months. We stopped off at a very busy Church Stretton to visit Burway Books and continue the pub search, dad and I trying to convey to mum the difference in drinking beer from a bottle compared to a tap. We gave up on the pub search and headed back to the van for some lunch in the sunshine before watching the funeral.

An afternoon of reading in the sunshine followed by takeaway dinner in the van. Two days of sunshine and hills, just lovely!
