La partida del Príncipe.

Prince Philip´s final journey today to his funeral in Windsor. Necessarily understated because of the covid restrictions, it must have been more to the Prince's taste without all those dreadful politicians, heads of state and celebrities. It was quite compelling watching, and I was moved by the detail, especially his racing carriage, complete with his gloves, hat and customary jar of sugar lumps for the horses, waiting outside the chapel. The Queen was as dignified as always, but today a sad and solitary figure as she witnessed the final parting of her husband of 73 years. I managed to watch most of it without being too affected, but finally lost it at the sight of the lone piper slowly walking away and playing a lament as the coffin was lowered into the vault.
The Brits do these occasions so well.
