Old boats, Whitstable seashore

We took ourselves off to the coast at Whitstable this afternoon, our first trip to the coast since January. Cool nor’easterly walking towards the town and warn sun and breeze at our back on the return journey. So good to be beside the sea.

Only a few people about as all schools were now back. Goodness knows what it would have been like over the weekend. The seafront and harbour are always fascinating places for a blipper. For long stretches to the west of the town many boats of various stages of decay and dereliction litter the beach. The harbour is a vibrant fishing port complete with boats and all the paraphernalia associated with fishing. There are beach huts galore, some of which change hands for many £1000s.

For today’s blip I’ve chosen one of those boats which seemed to have been on the shore since Noah was a lad. There’s evidence of the centreboard housing, thwarts and kicking straps but the bodywork is in need of some attention if this boat is every going to taste the salty brine of the Thames Estuary again. A submission for this week’s Derelict Sunday hosted by Marlieske . Thank you.

I could have chosen the extra as an entry for MonoMonday which this week has luminescent as its theme.
