WHAT'S YOUR BEST GUESS?

It's Tiny Tuesday....and this whole structure is about the size of a man's fist but this photo shows only a "tiny" part of it.  Any guesses?

You are actually looking up the nose of a beaver skull. The fleshy part is gone, of course, but you're looking at the turbinate bones within the internal nose structure. You have them as well. They are designed to baffle the air as you breathe in which causes it to collide, side-to-side with other turbinates which jostles foreign particles out of the stream of air. Nose hairs do the same thing. Foreign particles stick to the mucous along the turbinates and thus it both cleans the air before it goes to the lungs and warms it as well due to the abundant blood flow along the turbinate surfaces. If you've ever been punched in the nose, you can testify as to how much blood is in there.
