Duck and Cover

The rather insignificant looking tower at the centre of the photo stands above what was built as part of a radar system in the 1950s. It fell out of use as that during the 1960s and the surrounding buildings were extended downwards to convert the complex into a large nuclear bunker. This was equipped to be the control centre for civil defence operations in the East of England region in the event of a nuclear attack. Although no longer used for that purpose, the complex is still intact apparently, and is now privately owned and sadly inaccessible.
