Little nervous face

Her first day at school. She didn't manage much breakfast because she felt nervous - this is almost unheard of for Katie, she always eats loads at breakfast. She did do her morning bassoon breakfast practice, she needed that familiarity and thrives on the routine of it.

Lots of bits of her day were good. She had a fabulous time in their swimming lesson, which is why she's in PE kit (covid, they have to go changed for PE/games on those two days currently).

Maths was a bit of a disaster. She's in the top set but got in a tizz because they had a timetables test including 13, 14 and 15 which they have all studied apart from her. And they have some speed mental maths activities they do that she has never done so she got quite embarrassed at how she did. I have of course explained to her that she will very soon get it.

Her first piano lesson was a big trauma in which she freaked out and ended up in tears in the lesson, so we are going to have to deal with that. She pulled herself together after it for teatime and my friends daughter saw her looking very happy. She got home from school at 6 and was glad to do some more bassoon but when she spoke to me at 7, when she was tired and had been bottling everything up for a few hours, she absolutely lost the plot and sobbed uncontrollably. Thankfully her house parent came in and was able to be aware and talked to her a bit about the need to talk with her about these things so she can help. I even called in the FairyGodteacher reinforcements. B managed to calm her down but didn't manage to get much sense out of her. When she returned to talking to me, she got herself almost immediately back in a state.

No regrets from either of us, but it was big, new and very hard in that particular moment.
