Eucalypt flower
Still lingering around Eucalypt Land, with this flower from a Eucalyptus globulus - probably. (Experts' conflicting claims notwithstanding.)
Large, circular donut-shaped flowers in a very bright - to the point of ostentatious, some (including me) would suggest - yellow.
When combined with the bright red brain-shaped buds that co-exist with the flowers, we're talking an unusually loud display - for a native plant in general, but especially for a Eucalypt. Large red buds, large yellow flowers, long pointed (at both ends) sea-green leaves, and smooth pinkish branches and stems. The overall effect is almost (but not quite) kaleidoscopic.
Heading off very early tomorrow morning to drive from Adelaide to Melbourne for a couple of days - about 700+ kilometres - for a catch-up with my only daughter and her partner - then onto the ferry for a week-long driving holiday around this unsceptered but delightfully photogenic isle of Tasmania. Oh, and it's one of the six states of Australia, too.
Taking a couple of cameras with me, plus the trusty mobile phone, and will try to post a Blip each day - but in the end, all depends on drive times, WiFi access, holiday excess and the vagaries of road trips on island states.
