Visible from our house and a ten-minute walk over the fields is the Thurgartstone or Ogrestone. (That's the village in the background) It has had many names over the centuries but these are the two it is known as now. Long associated with Pagan rituals, a Druid's altar, it was also supposedly used for cremations. The lease rules for renting the field include an area around the stone that cannot be ploughed as it is believed bodies are buried around it. Some say that occasional MayDay celebrations still take place at the stone. I shall keep watch....
