I've done one of these before with my face. In an attempt to make the familiar unfamiliar it seems like there's a second time for everything.

Here's the thing. Take a photograph. Take the photograph again but this tine out of focus. Divide each image into equal size squares. Then get one of your children to pick numbers out of a pot one at a time, alternating between 'focus' and 'blur', each number corresponding to a piece of the image, resulting in a 50/50 split between 'in' and 'out' of focus. Check the results at focus/pot/blur.

And, in the interests of throroughness, I assembled the inverse of the image as well, with 'focus' now being 'blur' and vice versa.
