Anzac Day Memorial

This group of crosses is on the Avon River bank, in Richmond in Christchurch. It's a smaller, local group, and is for the young men who left from the small local neighbourhood. There are displays showing the lives of some of the men who went, explaining that they went to the local school, and their lives locally. It does make the commemoration so much more poignant putting faces to the names.

The saddest part is how many of them were killed only a short time before the end of the wars, in some cases only days or weeks.

For all but especially for those unable to get to the dawn services for a variety of reasons, having a local place to contemplate and remember is very worthwhile.
