Timberrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Part 2
As reported 10 days ago, needed to bring down the other half of a tree on one of the horse fields. Being lazy and assuming the standing half was just as rotten as the fallen half, attempted to push it over using the tractor. Total failure!
Had to get out the chainsaw to do the job but went well. Then started on the very lengthy and fiddly job of cutting it all up into fire wood size logs. Always a question: do you saw in 1m lengths then split those and then saw them into 33cm logs or saw them in 33cm at the start and then split. The question is easier if you have nice straight, one trunk, spruce etc, but difficult with such a tree. I have gone the 33cm route.
To be climate friendly I used the electric chainsaw (apart from initial felling cut) as we have loads of sunshine and the PV is producing far too much. Downside is the electric chainsaw is really heavy.
Got about half done before I had to retire exhausted. Alone the safety boots & trousers weigh together nearly 5kg
