Mirror, mirror on the wall...
Who's the fairest junco of them all?
The much-promised snow finally arrived - about 5 wet, heavy inches of it. Which meant bird-watching heaven, especially since all my appointments today were cancelled due to the weather. Oh joy - me, two camera, two lenses and a bunch of birds! The only thing that would have made it better if is hubs had been able to stay home with me. However, we're having a date tonight which involves sushi ...so, yay!
I had a terrible time choosing a blip today. So many interesting shots and even a rare visit from a song sparrow. However, I kept coming back to this one because this is the first time I've even seen two juncos sitting this close to each other without a fight breaking out. Funny, because they feed in flocks and you never see just one of them feeding - but they spat constantly and you never see two right next to each other. One of my other top picks today was two juncos engaged in a major stare-down, complete with aggressive posturing, which is more typical behavior. I mostly used the new D600 with Big Daddy (Tamron 200-500) today and ALL shots were taken through the windows. It was too cold and blustery and snowy to risk me or the camera out there!
I have posted 13 other shots on Flickr - my favorites of the day. If you'd care to have a look, click HERE.
Thanks for your comments yesterday which ended up sending the little rodent to the Spotlight page. :) It would seem that we are a rodent-loving bunch here on blip. Thank you also to those of you who took time to look at my Flickr tulip and comment - thanks! It was really fun to try some new techniques, so thanks again to all who made suggestions.
The snow has stopped and the sun is out, so I'll venture out now to top off the feeders. Ciao!
