A bee day

Today has been about bees. First, getting breakfast ready, having a huge bumblebee knock on the kitchen window. How was it to know there was glass in that big, inviting hole, unless it flew into it?

Then, walking Norwestie in the woods, this pile of logs. Felled  years ago from the look of them. Left to be collected later. Forgotten. Remembered perhaps, nagged maybe to go fetch, but collection put off until forgotten again? Anyway, too long abandoned and well past their burn by date. Now a home for wild bees. Who needs one of those bee houses that nothing ever seems to move into, when you can have one of these? Of course this takes up  more space, but it does have a very fetching mossy wig.

After that, grasscutting. With blade set to max height, and route chosen with care to avoid cutting dandelions and other wild flowers. For the bees, of course.

And finally, toast and honey.

Dammit, I forgot today's slice of gingerbread. Red faced emoticon :(

In other news, today saw the first swallow of summer; the first peacock butterfly, ditto; and larks boiling like kettles in the sky. Not bad.
