Undertones
Always a challenge to capture a butterfly image but this one folded its wings and hunkered down deploying its camouflage to blend into the background. It's a common green-veined white (I think) one of a myriad flitting along the hedgerows like snow flakes in the sunshine. But underneath, its grassy disguise makes its very hard to spot. The effect comes not from pigment but from black and yellow scales that refract light to create the colour effect and confuse the eyes of potential predators.
