Mystic Meg
Long long drive north today from London to my folks' in Northumberland. The M6 looked horrific going the other way, but we had a great run and were in Cumbria by early afternoon. We stopped off at Long Meg a 3,500 year old stone circle near Langwathby. If you're there on your own it is a quite mystical place, but a couple of parties of kids (mine included) shouting and screaming take something of the edge off the experience!
More photos here on flickr including one showing some of the offerings that are still left at the stones.
There's also one of the view over Cumbria from Hartside Top (high point of the A686 on the way to Alston). On a clear day you get a peerless view of the Cumbrian fells. Today... not so much.
Two more days of our break to go, then it's back to reality.
