Marjorie's ramblings

By walkingMarj

Another day, another walk, another group

Today I was out with Brian and Jean Walters, Christine and Henry Swaddle and John Shaw. We did a big loop from Wall Village, onto Fallowfield Fell and back by Hadrian's Wall Trail.

Here we are at Planetrees on Hadrian's Wall. It's a lovely spot with terrific views.

It was very cold today, but the promised rain kept away. We could see great swathes of rain in the south and west, but it never reached us. Perhaps we had the easterly (cold) wind to thank for that.

We saw quite a few wild flowers including bluebells, wood sorrel, golden leaf saxifrage, primroses and wood anemones.

Being out with old friends is a real tonic.

We had drinks and cake in my garden afterwards. Jenny and Dennis came to see Mum so it was a very happy time.

This evening, Mum and I watched a talk about Lady Mary Wortley Montagu who brought inoculation against smallpox to London from Turkey. This predated Jenner's cowpox inoculation by a long way. Fascinating.
