Melodious birdsongs filled the air although the harsh squawking sounds coming from herons sitting on the tops of some of the lakeside trees were less pleasing.  Large nests could be seen high up including one on the conifer on that little island.  Geese kept annoying a heron which was attempting to silently fish. Signs of spring were all around with bright new leaves unfurling on the trees while violets, primroses and cowslips adorned the banks and woods. No doubt before very long, the swan sitting on a large nest and ducks and geese will be proudly leading their young on the water at Gosford.  Only the cool temperature made it feel less like spring.
