Bluebell woods
Last year, because of the first lockdown and shielding, we missed much that I really love about Spring. No hedgerows of May blossom, no roadsides full of cow parsley, and no bluebell woods.
So this afternoon, after a visit to Bluebell Cottage garden and nursery, we walked through the adjacent wood. It was simply glorious. The combination of the blue under storey and the fresh greens of the leaves opening above, is just magical.
2021 will be a year when the annual flowering of the bluebells in our woods is not missed.
Extra - same location, different view. The horizontal tree here I found interesting. I think it is a hornbeam. The trunk sits horizontal on the ground, so at first impression it looks like a fallen tree. But at the crown the branches shoot upwards searching for the light, very much alive. It’s a survivor.
