Skimming the Surface
The Common Pond Skater - I find them fascinating little things. From afar they appear to just float around aimlessly but watch them closely and you see they are actually very busy. They seem to have little fights (maybe it’s a mating ritual), or if an unfortunate fly lands on the surface, they pounce, ruthlessly.
By the summer there will be hundreds of tiny versions and then by autumn they all disappear. Then it all starts again next spring. There must be so much more to these creatures that I don’t know.
