Reflection
"The world is a looking glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face."
William Makepeace Thackeray
Another canal walk with K1, from Gilwern. The stretch to Crickhowell is quieter and has some stunning vistas across the valley to Sugarloaf, glimpsed through the trees not yet in full leaf. We could also see a line of cars confirming it was busy up there. We remembered a similar view of it last year, the day before lockdown when we were told police were turning visitors away. Only a short-ish stroll for an hour or so today along the level canal tow path. A few canoeists pass us, including one with his young daughter intently focussed on her mobile phone screen in the prow, but making time to wave to the oldies on the tow-path. Once again the shower clouds are building, so we decided on heading to the Hummingbird at Llanover on the return journey. How I've missed my coffee and cake, and it was good! Fellow visitors had brought their own duvet to keep warm outside! Enough room for us today, we were told yesterday was manic so we seem to have timed it well. Glad to see they are back in business. Soon be time to settle down for the snooker final to take my mind off the rain, forecast for tomorrow.
