Happy Birthday Margret (next door)
It was Margret's 80 + something birthday today, but she has restarted counting in her 70s! She had spoken to her twin, Frank, and various friends and family members before I went at lunchtime
Liesbeth. Roger and I were invited to Sunday lunch. Margret collected it from Walwick Hall, which is a couple of miles up the road and a rather high class establishment. The food was exceedingly good, even when it cooled off rapidly as we sat outside.
There was sun, shade and a bit of wind, but the temperature was quite kind.
After lunch, Margret entertained us by reading from a Financial Times rave restaurant review of Hjem, the Michelin star restaurant in Wall village, just down the road from us. They do a spectacular tasting menu in a 12 seater restaurant, where the seats face the tiny kitchen and preparation area. The menu sounds like something out of this world, but we were very happy with our pork or beef Sunday roast with loads of veg and trimmings. I'm not sure I fancy the finely shredded langoustine claw on toasted bread the size of a SIM card or the roasted yeast, so perhaps I'll give Hjem a miss!
We gave Margret a copy of Sister Wendy Beckett's 100 favourite paintings and she is delighted with it. The book was sealed so she kindly brought it over for us to look at before she starts to read it.
Tonight is LOD and I'm going to stay up and watch it after Mum's milky drink has been made. I've double checked that it is recording.
I've seen a knitted quartet of the three main characters and a little donkey on Facebook tonight. Someone had to do it!
