Churfirsten view

Today was actually an official day off for our office, and I decided to take it off, as weather forecast was promising, especially in the east. I jumped on the train toward Zürich, with a very vague plan in mind. After more map perusal on the train, I decided to get off in Sargans, and get the bus up Weisstannental. I got off at Unteremühle on the Seez, heading first to the river. The first sight was a shock, a large totally burned down farmhouse, how sad and it looked quite recent.
The next site was a pretty alpine squirrel, so cute, but couldn’t get such a clear shot. The path was quite narrow, through wild flower meadows, and forest sections up to 1000m. A beautiful blue bench situated with a super view down to Sargans, the Rhine Valley and Alvier, 2342m was a great place to eat lunch and enjoy being in a totally new place.
The next place was Vermol at 1100m, where the path entered some beautiful moorland forests, with patches of snow, woodpeckers and plenty of frogs. The track followed the Chapfensee lake quite closely, which was really empty, but will probably fill up quickly as the snow melts.
I decided to head back down to the valley to Flums, passing some beautiful little gorges and waterfalls, partly narrow grassy paths, and woodland walkways. There were herds of goats, sheep and cows on the lower pastures. I arrived in Flums 10 mins before the bus left, as the wind got up and the rain started, how lucky was that!
12km, 3hr30mins, 400m ascent.
