Winter is back

The glimpse of spring we had last week which warmed the cockles and lifted the spirits has gone and the wood burner is back on.

As an aside - how could I have achieved one of those pictures which showed the shape and flickering effect of the flames? A tripod and a longer exposure? Or something completely different?
