Feeding Time

A month ago I posted a picture of a moorhen on her nest. Since then we have had snow, hail and generally cold weather. It must have been a very tiresome and unpleasant period for her. At the time I saw no sign of her mate. So I thought it must be quite a lonely vigil as well.

I am pleased to see her efforts were not in vain. She now has four chicks in her nest. While I was watching both mum and dad were busy collecting food and feeding the chicks. It is quite a cold day, and just after I took this picture mum popped back into the nest to keep the little ones warm.

It is just as well the nest is out of reach of the shore of the pond as the family is attracting a lot of interest.
