“Ne’er cast a clout till May is out”    Does this old saying mean one should not discard warm clothes until the month of May is over or meaning the May blossom is in flower.
There are only a very few May flowers out at the moment and these were found low down on a sheltered path.  The first Monday in May is traditionally the May Day holiday in Britain and it was definitely not a day to “cast a clout” due to the cold and the rain and even snow in parts of Scotland.
