The Great Marquess

A trip to Bury today to the East Lancs Railway.

Two Three reasons -
1. the steam train was running today and
2. to sample some of the ales on the "Rail" Ale Trail
3. I will go anywhere to get out of doing the shopping

I decided to have a day out with my husband and his friend, who is a rail enthusiast.
(I suppose you could say my husband is more the ale enthusiast.)

Even if you are not really into trains, there is something special about seeing and hearing a steam train pull into the station.

We stopped off at Ramsbottom for fish and chips, then called to The Irwell Brewery which serves its own brewed ale. The brewery opened in November 2010 and only two weeks later won the award for Best Beer at Bury Ale Festival.
On the return journey we quenched out thirst at the Trackside pub at Bury Station.

Thirsty work.
