Noctua comes
The surprisingly large (about 2.5cm long) caterpillar of the Lesser Yellow Underwing (Noctua comes). Although its one of the commonest moths in Britain I don't recall finding its larvae before - which may be because its supposed to be a nocturnal feeder. Like so many moth caterpillars the patterning draws your attention away from the munching end.
