A relief
The sun poring past the back of the house greeted us when we got back from the polling station after a cold, very wet day of anxiety.
Mum had never wanted to vote by post, but we had arranged them just in case, knowing they could be handed in on the day if we decided not to post them. But we had to wait till my sister got back from a horribly busy day to be with dad before I could take mum to vote in person by handing her envelope in.
The lashing rain stopped just in time. All very quiet at the polling station, which is in the Students' Union at Heriot Watt campus where, of course, Covid means there are very few students around to vote anyway.
